Aljazzi lands the Group 3 Atalanta Stakes in impressive fashion on Saturday at Sandown. The race had been targeted by Marco since her impressive run at Royal Ascot in June when she finished second in the Group 2 Duke Of Cambridge Stakes.
The daughter of Shamardal jumped well and was settled in rear by her jockey Andrea Atzeni, before being asked to pick up and eventually go on to win by a comfortably three lengths to the second place horse Nathra.
“Aljazzi has progressed and Ascot was a great performance,” said Marco. “She wants time between her races so we freshened her up for this. She was a bit awkward coming out of the stalls, so we were further back than we ideally wanted, but she picked up well. The plan after this has always been to go for the Sun Chariot Stakes.”
